 TORN CANVAS

CANVAS REPAIR: Have a canvas painting that has been torn.... well we can repair
it for you and touch up the painting. Email me for further information. I'll need
to see a picture of the tear to quote price. Some repairs are fairly easy and
some are almost impossible. Generally prices will run between $50 and $100.
plus your cost of shipping...just to give you an idea. But it is possible for the
cost to vary.

Below are images of a repair. The tear in this piece went back together fairly
easily and it filled and touched up nicely because of the wide variety of colors,
but what does not show is that it has radiating circles of breakage from the tear
all the way out to the edge of the picture. They did not show up in the
photographs but they were the hardest to cover.

GOLD LEAFING
100 SHEETS 5.5"SQ, 2.5 COLOR
FREE SHIP IN USA
$25.00
You can add gold leaf to almost any surface and make it lovely.  I use gold leafing in my frame repairs a lot. But I recently gold leafed a LARGE statue
of BUDA.  he turned out lovely; but it took over 1000 sheets before I finished him.

There are several steps to gold leaf and their are many ways to get to the end product and there are different types of gold leaf.  Some gold leaf
is actually "GOLD" IMAGINE THAT.  But it will run from $50 t $100. a book of 25 sheets.  Compo gold is made of other metals to look gold and it comes in
different shades from 2, 2.5, 3, etc. I usually use 2.5 which is 85-86% copper. It is the closest to the color of gold.  And of course silver and copper are
available, plus some variegated ones.

INSTRUCTION- DOING A SPEED THROUGH

1. clean item to be gold leafed. Wash, dry, sand, patch, seal, etc

2.  base coat with several coats of gesso and sand about every 3rd coat. You want a nice smooth, clean surface

3. Base coat with red (can be bright or Indian red) for gold and blue or purple for silver leaf.  let dry.

4. Add adhesive, I like a water base, apply uniformly, no puddles, let dry (read instructions on your container)
you want it to be clear and tacky

5. Lay in the gold leaf to the adhesive surface. Many techniques.
a)  a soft natural hair brush raked through your hair will usually magnetize and pick up the gold sheet.
gently lay into the adhesive. Lightly tap with the brush, gently.
b) a little Vaseline on the back of you hand, rake your brush lightly into the gel and it will pick up the gold.
lay into the adhesive.
c)  the gold will want to stick to it's divider sheets and you can take a sheet slightly fold it into a curve (edges back)
and then lay it into the adhesive and let the gold slide off the divider sheet.
d)  You can also cut the gold package down into a more practical size. Just cut with scissors through the entire packing.
When doing frames I usually cut it in half.

6)  When you have covered the entire areas that have adhesive, tap gently into the glue. Do not be aggressive.

7) touch up any spaces missed, rub gently with a soft cloth or brush
brush away any crumbs of gold.

8) reapply another coat of gold if you think it needs it
some times 3 or more coats of gold are needed.

9)  Let dry thoroughly

10) varnish to protect gold from air to keep it from oxidizing. Real gold does not oxidize.

11)  apply a coat of stain to deposit in cracks and crevices, designs, edges, etc. (simulated dirt)
start with medium light antiquing-stain and you can always darken if you want.
Acrylics will work (thinned with water) but oils (thin with turp/linseed oil) are nicer, but takes longer to dry.

12) another coat of varnish is you do not every want to remove the antiquing.

If you enjoy doing gold leaf then do some reading and get move involved with the process. This is a quick easy, skips some steps, method.
